School Visits

As a passionate advocate for the importance of reading and writing for pleasure, I love working with children and am available for school visits to Early Years and Key Stage 1 Primary School Year Groups. I hold a current basic DBS Certificate.

My visits are full of energy and interaction, and include an introduction to life as an author with lots of encouragement for children to try out their 'author superpower', a superhero action-packed song and a picture book reading, with an optional superhero or book-themed activity, a Q&A session and book signing. Each child is given a signed postcard to take home.

Visits can be tailored to fit with ongoing superhero or PSHE topics at school and adjusted to meet the particular needs of the classes in question.

Basic prices for in-person events are as follows:

Testimonials

Kenya class loved having Kate in to visit.  She was fully engaging throughout and interacted brilliantly with the children.

The children loved her book and some even went home to do some of their own story writing as a result.

It was lovely to hear Kate telling the children how old she was when she started writing to - hopefully this has helped them to realise their own potential.

Vikki Baker-Grunnell, Key Stage 1 Teacher

Kate inspired our year 2 children to create their own super hero story. Her main message to the children was not be afraid of the mechanics of writing (spelling and grammar) but concentrate on the message you want to give. Be your own illustrators and be creative. Her energy and enthusiasm for writing was infectious.

Luba Tilly, Key Stage 1 Teacher

A brilliantly interactive session where pupils shared their superhero ideas superhero artwork... it was a wonderful day.

A couple of weeks ago, Year 1 enjoyed a visit by local author Kate Thompson. She shared her book, 'Superheroes don't get scared... Or Do They?' and talked to the children about being brave. We really enjoyed having her!

A very big thank you on behalf of both Beaver Colonies for tonight's presentations. I know that both groups really enjoyed the session - you can always tell by how well they listen (as I'm sure you know!). And they were really inspired to create their own Superheroes - we had some amazing results... I'm rather taken with Super Weather Girl - how lovely to be able to change the weather!! We had some really imaginative ideas and brilliant pictures. It was hard to tear them away from their designs.
